This is a combination of enamel paint, frit, stringers of glass and bits of glass, built up layer upon layer firing each layer. The layers enable me to develop a depth of field in the “painting”. The painting was started on a clear piece of glass with a wash of enamel paint on the back of the glass to establish a hint of background. The flowers were then added along with stringers of glass that had been pulled in a flame to achieve an organic feel of stems and leaves. The paths are layers of a fine amber frit layered with a gold colored mica powder for a hint of glow. After many firings and layers of glass when I decided the piece was complete I felt the painting was best presented on a white background with “breathing space” much like a matte. I then selected the wood to create the frame taking special note of the figure in the wood, placed in a manner to accentuate the overall design of the painting.
